HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT STYLE WEDDING DRESS:
Finding the perfect style of dress is a very important part of your day - how you will look and how you will feel. Sometimes, what looks good on a model or in a magazine can be decieving when we try to put it on our own bodies. Fabrics, style, undergarments, and measurements can influence the style of wedding dress that you will find most flattering and most comfortable for your wedding day.
FULL-FIGURED WOMEN
If you are a full-figured woman, the best silhouette is an A- Line. A-line lengthens the whole body without drawing attention to your waistline. The empire waist is another good choice. The empire is narrowest just below the bust and conceals your waist and hips.
Many plus-sized brides tend to purchase wedding gowns that cover a lot of skin. If religion isn't an issue, don't be afraid to show some skin. Skin is sexy and in some cases showing your arms and neckline can often make one appear smaller.
Deep V-necks and scoop-necks flatter curvy figures and often look best on full figured women.
PETITE WOMEN
A-line wedding dresses are also flattering on a petite women. As we stated earlier it lengthens the body. Sheaths seem to shorten a small body even more. You may also want to stay clear of very full skirts - you want to keep your wedding dress in proportion to your body.
Be careful with strapless, depending on bustline, a petite woman wants to be able to lift her arms to reach up to her new husband without the dress falling down. In this case you may want to order a corset back to make the strapless dress tighther around your torso area.
Alternatively, a cap sleeve gives the feeling of a strapless gown and also serves a practical purpose in holding the gown in place.
LARGE-BUST WOMEN
Off-the-shoulder gowns look wonderful on a full bust. It draws the attention upward, emphasizes the shoulders and minimizes the chest. You may want to keep your skirt either narrow or choose an extra size petticoat to emphasize an hour-glass figure.
BOTTOM HEAVY
Women who are larger through their hips and buttocks should look for a wedding dress that focuses on their upper body preferably with a full skirt. Show your arms back and bust line.
Corset-style bodice with lacing will highlight your upper body and will help draw attention away from your hips. Avoid pleats or gathered fabric around the waist.
BACK CLOSURES
There are two types of back closures: Zippered and Corset. Each dress style comes default with one or the other; however, you have the option to customize your dress design by selecting the back closure that will work best for your body type.
If your body tends to fluctuate in weight a little up or choosing a corset back closure may prove the best option for you. A corset back will allow you to have more flexibility on your wedding day in case you feel like you need just a little more, or maybe even a little less room.
Plus-sized brides may also consider ordering an extra yard or two of your dress fabric so that when you get your dress, you can bring it to your local seamstress and have the back panel widened that fits behind the corset tie of your dress. This is a great way to ensure that your size 22 dress can loosen to a 24 on that very special day if you need a little extra room in your upper torso area.
Costs: If your dress style comes standard with a zippered back, there will be a small fee to adjust the design to accommodate a corset back, or vice-versa.
