Wearing a veil can be a little tricky if you have never tried to put one on before. If you don't have a stylist that can help you, these quick instructions should help you:
If you are placing the veil into a 'free' hair style, it is important to back comb the area you want it placed for reinforcement.
If you are placing the veil into an 'updo' or 'bun' style, you may have to try a few times before you find a spot without bobby pins obstructing the comb. You will want to be sure that when you find a spot suitable that it does not pull or poke causing irritation as it doesn't take long for that little irritation to become a big one.
Push the comb of the veil into the hair with the concave side facing upwards and then rotate forward and down into the hair so that the concave side is now cradling your scalp.
When you are wearing a tiara with your veil there are two things to remember; with a 'free' hair style you will likely be wearing the veil high on your head, so you will want to make sure that the tiara is right on top of the seam between your hair and the veil so that there is no gap left there. With an 'updo' you will likely want to wear the veil below the updo and the tiara above the updo. The key here is to place the seam of the veil right against the bottom of your updo and the back of your tiara right against the top of your updo.
There are three basic ways to wear a veil:
Top head position - If you have chosen to wear a slim wedding gown or mermaid style wedding gown, our best recommendation is to wear a full or 'puffy' veil on the top of your head. With a slim gown, the veil will offset the dress creating the illusion of a slimmer frame, and with a mermaid style gown, the veil will create the illusion of a more curvaceous body. Remember that a free or 'down' hair style will work best with the veil on top of your head. It is best to stay away from this style if you consider yourself to be above average in height.
Mid height position - If you have chosen to wear a veil midway on your head, you can pair this with most styles of dress and hair style, however wearing a veil above a bun or updo is usually not as flattering so you will most likely want to go with a high 'updo' or a low loose hair style. When wearing a veil midway on your head, your best option is to choose a veil that anywhere from below the shoulder length all the way up to cathedral length. If you decide to go with cathedral length be sure that the veil exceeds the length of the train on your dress.
Lower head position - Wearing a veil low on your head is flattering with every style of gown and most hair styles except for a free or 'down' hair style. Pairing this with a bun or a low updo is preferable, and remember that the seam of your veil should be right up against the bottom of your hair style to eliminate any gaps.
